Last night I was so comfortable. I had just taken the longest shower possible and was now going to watch another full hour of Friends. My bed was probably the most comfortable it has ever been and the room was cool and just the right temperature for sleeping. I really do love being at school right now. This week won't be too hectic which is good; and I will have time to maybe even do some work ahead of time. I fell asleep last night in such a good mood. I fell asleep last night thinking about the Easter egg that I found in my purse and how life was...good.
This morning was very different. As I walked outside I saw the Springfield police and campus safety chatting it up in front of my apartment. Everyone knows that when the Springfield police are on campus...thing are not good. During my 8:00 class I came to find out why they were there. At 11:00 last night, a senior in one of the townhouses was abducted and forced to withdraw all her money from an atm by knife point. She was then sexually assaulted and returned to campus two hours later. The assaulter struck again, this time in Gateway. The house right behind me to be exact. He entered the house and woke the girl up demanding her for money with a knife to her throat. The girl was able to fight him off and call to her roommate but her throat was cut in the process. The guy then proceeded to enter ANOTHER gateway house and stole two labtops and a digital camera.
Of course we are all told to lock our doors and windows and stay inside after 9 but um my question is, where was campus safety during any of these events? Campus safety did however manage to go into everyones apartments and wake people up at 6 this morning to make sure everyone was okay. So far that's all I've seen them do. My RA came by this afternoon and gave us a letter of what happened, oh and a whistle (?)...just in case.
I'm pretty terrified right now because my roommate won't be back until midnight and I'm in the apartment by myself, so you can bet the music is going to be blaring until then. AND...my roommate decided to tell me before she left that two guys on Sunday were circling around our house and eventually looked inside our front windows. They saw Melissa in the apartment and walked away. I was like, um thanks for telling me now that two guys were LOOKING IN OUR APARTMENT!
I'm so glad I can't even feel safe in my own school. This only makes me want to become a teacher even more so that I can teach kids how to treat each other with respect and to get a job instead of stealing and becoming stupid delinquents. Stupid Springfield.
